Sarah Palin has been working overtime recently to insert herself into the climate change debate as talks continue in Copenhagen and work continues in the Senate towards legislation. But not everyone is on board with Palin’s rejection of climate science- even within her own party. Earlier this month, Governor Schwarzenegger
released a new report determining that global warming, left unabated, will lead to higher sea levels, greater wildfire risks and decreased water supply over the next century, based on research compiled by the California Energy Commission.
Schwarzenegger also convened a panel of 23 experts from various sectors to review the 200-page report and draft final policy recommendations for the governor and Legislature by July.
Armed in part with these new findings, Schwarzenegger was asked about Sarah Palin’s position on global warming when he visited Good Morning American this past Tuesday. He said:
I think there are people that just don’t believe in fixing and working on the environment. They don’t believe there is such a thing as global warming. They’re still living in the Stone Age.
Against this backdrop, Senator Boxer continued working towards important climate change legislation in Washington and kept up with the ongoing Copenhagen summit. She was held in the capital by votes on health care, but passed along the remarks she had hoped to deliver personally in Denmark, saying in part “America has already acted. We continue to act. And we are doing more every day.”
And in the ongoing Republican battle, Chuck DeVore continued to marshall the tea party members who form the base of Palin’s support and Carly Fiorina – who claims “I share Sarah Palin’s values” continued doing her best to prove her conservative credentials to the GOP’s right wing.
Despite claims to the contrary, the overwhelming body of climate science continues to point to the same conclusions, and the imperative that significant action be taken soon. Governor Schwarzenegger has the data and understands, and so does Senator Boxer.
