Barbara fights for our oceans

Thursday, June 24th, 2010 by Lucas

A special message from Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen

Now more than ever, in the wake of the tragic oil spill in the Gulf, it’s critical that we do everything in our power to protect our oceans. That’s exactly what our Senator Barbara Boxer is doing.

By calling for a moratorium on new West Coast offshore oil drilling and pushing to eliminate the $75 million liability limit for oil companies, Barbara is working to preserve our oceans and our coastline for generations to come.

But Barbara is facing a tough Republican challenger, Carly Fiorina, who still blindly supports Sarah Palin’s “drill, baby, drill” mantra even after this catastrophe — and, not surprisingly, proudly accepted Palin’s endorsement during the primary.

Now, more than ever, we must stand together and make sure Barbara has the resources to win this November. Will you join us?

Contribute $5 to Barbara’s campaign now — so she can keep fighting for our oceans in the U.S. Senate!

We first got involved in ocean conservation decades ago — but recent events make these advocacy efforts even more urgent.

A permanent moratorium on drilling off the Pacific Coast would ensure that no new oil leases could ever be issued off our shores — and protect these pristine waters for generations to come.

In addition, by lifting the $75 million liability cap on oil companies who foul our waters, we would make companies fully responsible for cleaning up future environmental catastrophes — and in the process, remove their current incentive to take extraordinary risks that imperil our oceans.

It’s time to transition to new sources of clean energy that will make America energy independent and preserve our environment.

And we need to keep Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate to lead the charge.

Remember, Carly Fiorina also recently said she didn’t know whether global warming was real and dismissed Barbara’s hard work to address the climate change crisis as merely being “worried about the weather.”

We can’t afford a Senator who is stuck in the past as we try to deal with the challenges of building a clean energy future.

That’s why we need to make sure we keep Barbara Boxer fighting for us.

Please contribute to Barbara’s campaign now.

We’re so lucky to have Barbara Boxer in the U.S. Senate — and we know you agree.

Let’s make sure we keep her there.

Thank you,
