From the very beginning of her political career, Barbara Boxer has been a leading champion of women’s health. When the Stupak-Pitts amendment passed the House ten days ago as part of the health care reform bill, it unfairly singled out women for major new restrictions on health care coverage.
Senator Boxer today launched a petition to fight against inclusion of the new restrictions in the final health care legislation. In an email today, she explained:
For decades, a very difficult and delicate compromise has held firm: Women can use their own private funds for legal reproductive health care procedures, but federal funds cannot be used for abortion except in cases of rape, incest, or to protect the life of the mother.
Senator Boxer is ready to lead, but she can’t do it alone. Like she says:
You know I will be there speaking out on this issue at every stage of the process and everywhere I can. But as the details of the Senate’s health care blll are worked out, we need to be sure that all our voices are heard clearly on this issue.

Dear Barbara,
You are one of my favorite government representative. I love you for the things you support especially your support for all living things, including the Earth.
I cannot contribute at this time but If you are threatened with defeat, I will do all I can to help. It would be terrible to loose you.
I thank you and all the other representatives who work so hard for us, but what has happened to our party? Something has gone very wrong when we cannot get a health care system that does not pay up front to insurance companies. Insurance is a numbers racket to make money. Our government should be taking care of us and I and most people would be willing to pay more taxes to get a Government guarantee of care.
We need a Liberal party. We no longer have one .
I just replied.
You are exactly what is wrong with America! You ignore what we want. Americans want healthcare reform but we don’t want this crappy bill. This bill is a disgrace and is an insult to Americans. You like many other career politicians are ignoring the people once again. You view us as subjects and we are not your damn subjects! It’s time for a change, you have lost my vote and I will do everything I can to help the person running against you. You’re Fired! And next time you address a member of the armed forces, address them with respect. They have earned it, you haven’t.
