Happy Birthday, Barbara

November 12th, 2009 by Rose

On Tuesday, you heard from Barbara Boxer, so you know that she was thrilled when I told her that, in just six days, we had already raised $94,000 toward our $100,000 fundraising goal. Our grassroots supporters are incredible!

What you might not know is that Barbara’s birthday is this week. So to make her birthday celebration even more special, I want to reach another big milestone in these last 36 hours before midnight Friday — and increase our “Rise to the Challenge Fund” goal to $150,000.

There couldn’t be a better time to make your first contribution to our campaign. Let’s show Barbara we’re standing with her every step of the way.

Contribute $5 to our campaign now — and help us reach our new $150,000 “Rise to the Challenge Fund” goal by this Friday!

As you know, Carly Fiorina officially kicked off her campaign last week, joining Chuck DeVore in challenging Barbara as she runs for reelection to the Senate. Observers are reporting that Fiorina is “throwing a punch” and “taking the fight” to Barbara Boxer in one of the most negative campaign announcements in memory.

Clearly the low blows and nasty tone are an effort to deflect attention from Fiorina’s failed record as CEO of HP — where she laid off thousands of workers, while her salary and perks increased, before ultimately being fired by her Board of Directors.

Every day, there’s another hit — more attacks, more distortions — and we have to fight back. We are challenging every half-truth immediately, but I know that it will take $30 million or more next year to set the record straight and reach everyone who will vote in November 2010.

That’s why we need your help.

Contribute $5 to our campaign now — and help us reach our new $150,000 “Rise to the Challenge Fund” goal by this Friday!

Both of Barbara’s opponents are scrambling to rack up right-wing endorsements. Some of the most conservative members of Congress have already endorsed them, including Senators who are doing everything in their power to stop the Obama agenda for change.

Since President Obama was sworn in, national Republicans have engaged in dozens of filibusters and other delay tactics to slow down progress on the important issues facing us, such as job creation, health care, and climate change.

So it’s more than a little ironic that Team Fiorina has attacked Barbara Boxer as a “do nothing” Senator.

You and I have watched Barbara over the years, and we know that she’s delivered billions of dollars in federal funding for crucial projects such as expanding mass transit, repairing levees, and retrofitting highways to protect against earthquakes. We know that Barbara has worked with Democrats and Republicans alike to protect more than one million acres of federal land as wilderness and to expand access to Pell Grants for community college students.

In fact, more than 1,000 Boxer policy provisions have been adopted and become law.

We will proudly stack up Barbara Boxer’s record of accomplishment against the records of our opponents any day. But we need your help to do it.

Contribute $5 to our campaign now — and help us reach our new $150,000 “Rise to the Challenge Fund” goal by this Friday!

I know that your strong support now will give Barbara one more thing to celebrate during her birthday week. Thanks so much for being there for us.

P.S. Carly Fiorina isn’t backing down, so we can’t either. Contribute $5 right now — and help us reach our new $150,000 “Rise to the Challenge” grassroots fundraising goal!

The comments are often really unique, we could all use far more fun reading. Please go on like this, it truly is worth.
