Earlier today, Senators Boxer and Kerry joined to introduce the highly-anticipated Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act. As Senator Boxer explained:

This bill addresses the major challenges of our generation. Protecting our children and the earth from dangerous pollution, putting America back in control of our energy future, creating the policies that will lead to millions of new jobs, and through our example inspiring similar actions around the world to avoid an unstable and dangerous future.

The bill has wide support, but that won’t stop special interests from doing everything in their power to stop it. In fact, they were ready as soon as the bill was introduced with an effort to distort and mislead. As Senator Kerry already said in a statement earlier today,

The ink wasn’t even dry on the The Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act before the same tired attacks and bold face distortions were launched by those committed to inaction. We predicted long ago that those on the other side would adopt the misleading jargon of oil companies, lobbyists, and special interests, which maximize their profits at the expense of progress.

Opponents of addressing the threat of climate change and the opportunity to create clean energy jobs will no doubt continue to object. But the reality is that Senator Boxer’s leadership of the Environment and Public Works committee has created a bill that takes bold steps to secure our country’s economic, environmental and military security.
